A journey of transformation spanning over five decades of technical education in Meru.
The institute was started to train social workers and clerks. A two-year commercial studies course was also offered to girls with CPE qualifications.
The Ministry of Education requested the Sisters to open a grant-aided Commercial Technical School for girls, initially at Gitoro Primary School.
The school relocated to its current 25-acre location at Nkabune, donated by the local community. Initial construction funded by the Kenyan Government, Misereor and the German Government.
Nkabune was among 18 schools converted to TTIs to instil skills for self-employment and formal sector employment. The first TVET trainees enrolled in Secretarial and Accounts courses.
New courses introduced: CPA Part One, Garment Making, and Food & Beverage at Craft level — broadening the institute's offering significantly.
Nkabune TTI now offers BTEP, TEP, and CDACC courses up to Diploma and Level 6, with 7,000+ students across 7 departments. ISO 9001:2015 certified.
